Developed a $10 million pilot program for utility involvement in electric vehicle infrastructure in Colorado.  The program was developed with input from ten key customer, municipal and community groups.

Facilitated electric vehicle stakeholder workshop series including 6 workshops with over 350 attendees.  Mapleton & Sloan provided meeting content development, pre and post workshop surveys and presentations about the industry landscape.

Consultant to Xcel Energy’s first ever Transportation Electrification Plan including a regulatory request over $100 million for electric vehicle programs.

Project Manager for first of its kind electric transmission system asset inspection program using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to conduct virtualized asset inspection for vegetation management and asset reliability.

Evaluated the strategy for the emerging technology investments of a large west coast utility including developing their story for regulatory communications and advising on plans for future investment.

Drafted and issued a Request for Information for Renewable Natural Gas to assist a national natural gas distribution utility with its carbon reduction strategy.

Leadership

Ms. Valdez leads projects for clients in areas of strategic planning and metric setting, environmental strategy, technology strategy, energy policy, technology implementation and stakeholder management.  For the last two years, her focus has been on transportation electrification.  Her clients include electric and gas utilities, municipalities, energy consortiums and other collaborative projects with other consultancies.  Additional recent projects include managing an industry leading project for the environmental strategy of a gas LDC and utility use of unmanned aerial technology for utility operations.  Previously she held management positions in the electric utility sector including Director of Strategy & Planning, Manager of Environmental Policy and Regional Manager of Fuel Supply Operations.  She has also provided expert witness testimony before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.  Ms. Valdez has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the University of Denver.
